Family dream home in Williamsburg Estates is rich in detail and quality
When Chris and Cathy Beymer set out to build their home at 2457 Williamsburg Estates Lane in 2007, they were well-acquainted with the construction process and had a good idea of what they wanted.
The open concept 4 bedroom, 4-1/2 bath, 5857 square foot home was the third that the couple had collaborated on, and they had personal relationships with nearly all of their contractors.
“If I’m going to build it, I’m going to have 2 x 6 framing for the exterior walls,” Chris said in reference to the typical 2 x 4 construction. “Yes, there’s a cost difference, but it saves on energy too.”
“And you don’t build a house like this and use plastic plumbing, you use copper,” Chris said. Among the many other upgrades are 8 foot solid wood doors, 10 foot tray ceilings, one foot thick basement walls and four HVAC units.
Home construction over a period of about 18 months was a labor of love for the hands-on style couple. “We were here every single day during the build,” Cathy said.
As a result, the attention to detail and quality shines through inside and out. “I’d especially like to give a nod to trim carpenter Jackie Black from Nicholasville,” Cathy said. Nearly every room in the house showcases his craftsmanship – built-in cabinetry, crown molding and door headers.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE
One of the main reasons for choosing the lot in Williamsburg Estates was to be in the Dunbar school district for their baseball playing son.
Another consideration was being close to Keeneland and horse farms where Chris plies his trade as a farrier, shoeing horses for thoroughbreds. “Where else can you have an acre and a half inside of New Circle Road?” Chris said.
“You can get anywhere quick from this location,” Cathy said. “We can get downtown in five or ten minutes, most of the hospitals are ten minutes away, and UK too. For groceries, both Beaumont Kroger and Alexandria are close.”
The three car side entry garage was also built to Chris’s specifications. “You can’t build a standard 22 foot garage and get a pickup in these days,” Chris said. “This one is 28 foot deep and 45 foot wide.”
Upstairs there are three spacious bedroom suites and a rec room. Downstairs there’s over 3000 square feet of basement space and a workshop for Chris.
ALL ABOUT ENTERTAINING
“The biggest thing for me about this house is entertaining,” Chris said. “We can easily accommodate 70 people on the first floor.”
The gourmet kitchen is equipped with high end appliances and boasts two islands, a butcher block prep island and a bar island with a farm sink.
The comfortable covered porch extending across the back of the home figures into the entertainment equation as well, as guests can step right out onto the lush back yard. The porch is accessible from the great room, the keeping room and from the posh first floor master suite.
With their two children grown and out of the house, the Beymers find themselves not utilizing as much of the home these days. “Chris and I spend all of our time in the keeping room and the kitchen,” Cathy says.
“I’m really going to miss it here when we leave,” Cathy said. “But we are looking forward to having a little less house and a little more grass.”
