This three-bedroom, 3 1/2 bath home built by Gale Custom Homes is just over the southern Fayette County line in the newly developed Drake’s Landing.

The home is essentially a 3,144-square-foot ranch offering single-level luxury living — not including the large attic office area and the full unfinished basement. The 109 Blue Wing Pass address in Jessamine County is accessed via Clays Mill Extension.

A covered back patio area with fireplace overlooks the 0.8-acre lot, and the oversized three-car garage provides convenient side-entry access though a mudroom to the open concept living area.

The roofline with gracefully sloping gables evokes a storybook style reminiscent of an English cottage, and builder Jeff Gale considers it a signature element.

“Those curves on the roofline are the kind of stuff that makes such a difference,” Gale said. “We pay attention to every detail, not just some, but every single one. If you do that and do it right, you’re going to build a great house.”

“I’m a marketing guy by background,” Gale said. Gale launched his career as a builder 12 years ago after retiring from the insurance industry. “You have to understand what your business is and what your model is and create a tagline.”

He takes his “Outrageous quality at an extremely fair price” motto to heart.

“It captures the essence of what I’m trying to do.” The four Gale homes in Phase I are priced from about $800,000 to $1.2 million.

From the bedrooms to the family room to the foyer, nearly every ceiling in the home has its own custom look. For example, the master suite’s multi-level tray ceiling, the foyer’s dome ceiling, and the dining room’s diamond coffered ceiling.

The inviting 10-foot rough-hewn front door with arched transom and sidelights is an example of the many custom touches throughout. Others include the king-size hand-made brick on the exterior, Anderson casement windows, wide-plank hickory flooring in the living room, wainscoting and real cast iron registers.

In the kitchen, counters are an elegant viscon white granite, and appliances are Kitchen Aide all around. Gale jokes that bonus points will be awarded if you can activate the touch faucet over the farm sink with your toe!

The home’s most-talked-about feature is the outdoor living space.

“People love the covered patio,” Gale said. “The Kentucky fieldstone in the wood-burning fireplace is the same stone used in the living room, and the mantel is reclaimed barn wood.”

Gale gives a nod to Susan English, part of the Gale Custom Home team, who navigates buyers through the many inherent decor and vendor decisions.

“A typical buyer will make 100 to 125 decisions through the building process,” Gale said. “Susan and her decorator instincts helps guide them through.”

The full unfinished basement opens the home to many possibilities such as theater space, gaming space or family space. Walls and plumbing and have been roughed in.

Remaining items waiting to be selected by the new owner of this home include front porch chandeliers, family room ceiling fans or chandelier, kitchen pendulum lights and pantry shelving.

Drake’s Landing was created on the old Maddox Farm, according to Gale. Horne Engineering invited four builders to take part — Collier Custom Homes, McLellan Homes, Mike Kerwin Homes and Gale Custom Homes.

This week’s feature home is listed with Suzanne Elliott of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices de Movellan Properties. To see more images of the home, visit the Homeseller gallery at Kentucky.com.
