17-year-old found dead with gunshot wound is 6th teenager killed in city in 2018.
A 17-year-old was found dead early Tuesday morning with a gunshot wound to the head in the middle of Ward Drive and Harris Court.
The victim was identified by Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn as Keith Allen Bledsoe. The death will be investigated as a homicide, Ginn said.
The coroner said Bledsoe died at the scene at around 3:35 a.m. A passerby called police to report a motionless man in the street, located in the Winburn neighborhood.
"We know pretty much, well, we really don't know what happened," Ginn told WKYT. "But there's evidence of different things, different scenarios that are possible."
LEX18 reported that police found one shell casing and are currently trying to find more evidence and witnesses.
The homicide is the 15th in Lexington in 2018. Bledsoe is the sixth teenager killed this year. Last year, the city had a record 28 homicides.
In most of the city's slayings, there is often, but not always, a tie between victim and killer, meaning the slayings aren't random, police have said previously.
Police are asking anyone with information related to their investigation from Tuesday's shooting to come forward.
