A Bell County couple allegedly robbed a 70-year-old man and threw him off a bridge into the Cumberland River while he was bound and gagged, state police have charged.
Joshua K. Parsons, 29, and Lora A. Amburgey, 39, have been charged with murder, first-degree robbery, kidnapping and tampering with physical evidence, according to a state police news release.
On Tuesday afternoon, state police were asked to check on Paul Slusher, 70, of the Fourmile community.
When Trooper First Class Curtis Pingleton arrived, it appeared Slusher's residence had been ransacked, and police suspected foul play. Police identified some potential suspects and a description of a vehicle they might be in, according to the news release from Trooper Walt Meachum.
Bell County sheriff's officers stopped Parsons and Amburgey in the vehicle Tuesday evening. They had some of the stolen property from Slusher's residence, and police found more of the property at their apartment, according to the news release.
The two allegedly stole money, guns and other property.
State police said they developed information that Parsons and Amburgey allegedly bound and gagged Slusher and threw him off a bridge into the Cumberland River in the Page community — a drop of about 50 feet.
Volunteers searched the swollen river for Slusher's body without success before nightfall on Wednesday.
Parsons and Amburgey are being held without bond.
