Midway College signs lease crucial to launching pharmacy school

Midway College has finalized an agreement with Big Sandy Community and Technical College to lease space on the Mayo campus in Paintsville for a new pharmacy school.

The two-year lease gives Midway the classroom and office space it needs to move forward with plans to open the pharmacy school in August 2011, college officials announced Thursday.

"To be able to move in and utilize space on their Mayo campus allows us to work quickly to get our staff and resources in place while we are seeking accreditation and working to enroll the first class in August 2011," Midway College President William B. Drake Jr. said in a news release.

The school will serve 320 students annually when it becomes fully operational. It is expected to employ 100 faculty and staff members and bring in more than $30 million each year.
