Looking for a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle? More chances to win the elusive bourbon.
Most bourbon fans would be thrilled to get a chance at one bottle of coveted Pappy Van Winkle. How about a chance at five bottles?
That’s what OperaLex is offering. The private not-for-profit group that supports opera in the Bluegrass and the renowned University of Kentucky opera program is holding a raffle this month that will give the winner an entire “flight” of bottles.
They include Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year, Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year, Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year, Pappy Van Winkle 20 Year and Pappy Van Winkle 23 Year, donated by Liquor Barn, OperaLex’s presenting sponsor.
Tickets for the raffle are $100 each, with up to 2,500 available at online at operalex.org.
Must be 21 to enter and you have to pick up the items in person with a valid ID. The drawing will take place on or before Oct. 30.
More chances at Pappy
To coincide with the release of a new book on the Van Winkles and their famous bourbon, the publisher is raffling bottles of various vintages of Pappy.
There are virtual book launch events for “Pappyland” by Wright Thompson, and each ticket for the online events there will be an entry into drawings. One is at Square Books in Oxford, Miss., and another is at Prairie Lights Books in Iowa City, Iowa, and you can buy tickets online. A third event is in the works for Seattle and they are hoping to set something up in Kentucky as well.
There will be three bottles of Pappy for each event. Tickets are $40-$50 and include a copy of the book as well as a donation to the Lee Initiative Restaurant Workers Relief Program.
Mark Gillespie of Whiskycast.com gave the book high marks in his review.
