West Sixth Brewing has a new beer you’ll want to scout out: Bourbon Barrel Brownie

West Sixth Brewing in Lexington is teaming up with Bulleit to produce a new limited-edition beer: Bourbon Barrel Brownie.

It’s a an Imperial Brown Ale aged in Bulleit Bourbon Barrels, with cacao nibs. According to the tasting notes, it “is reminiscent of milky, dark and fudgy brownies with notes of that bold signature Bulleit Bourbon flavor.”

And it’s a brownie with a big kick: It has an ABV of 10.5 percent.

It’s available in retail stores, anywhere West Sixth is sold, in December in Kentucky in 12-ounce four-packs and cases of 24. Suggested retail price for a four-pack is about $12.

“We were inspired to push ourselves in creating a brew that speaks to the local Kentucky community ahead of the holiday season, while staying true to the innovative spirit of both Bulleit and West Sixth,” said Kelly Hieronymus, West Sixth Brewing’s creative and marketing director, in a news release. “This release with Bulleit is extra special as we were able to collaborate with creative minds from within our local community. We couldn’t be happier for people to try this new barrel-aged beer in time for the holidays.”

Lexington’s West Sixth Brewing also has taprooms in Louisville and a farm in Frankfort.

Bulleit Bourbon, headquartered in Kentucky, is a high rye recipe bourbon with spicy flavor. In 2017, Bulleit opened a distillery in Shelbyville and in 2019 a new visitors center there.
