Heaven Hill’s craft distillery releasing whiskey with its highest rye recipe ever
If experimentation in whiskey is your thing, you need to check out the latest from Heaven Hill’s craft distillery.
The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience, an artisanal distillery inside the tourist mecca (you’ll know it by the giant bottle of bourbon pouring into a rocks glass) at 528 W. Main St. in Louisville, fills one barrel a day and recently added a new recipe.
It’s Square 6 High-Rye Rye Whiskey, with a mashbill of 63 percent rye, 24 percent corn and 14 percent malted barley.
This is the first Heaven Hill product with such a high rye content and joins a high-rye bourbon, released in May 2021, in the Square 6 lineup.
How does that compare with Heaven Hill’s traditional rye whiskey mashbill? That one is 51 percent rye, 35 percent corn and 14 percent malted barley.
The limited release was bottled at 95 proof. According to the tasting notes, it has a nose of black tea, sweet honey, fig and molasses with a palate of allspice, pepper, vanilla and cardamom.
It’s available to buy now at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience in Louisville (limit one per person) and coming soon to store shelves at select Kentucky retailers for a suggested retail price of $89.99.
