Why a downtown Lexington bar, restaurant, music venue building is listed for sale

A prominent downtown restaurant building is for sale again after only two years.

The historic property at 249 W. Short St., which houses ELIXIR Bar and Grill, has been listed for $3.79 million with Bluegrass Sotheby’s. The three-story building has offices on the second floor and a third-floor 2,800-square-foot luxury penthouse that is currently being used for short term rentals.

Former University of Kentucky football player Stephen Scaldaferri, who owns ELIXIR, said the restaurant, bar and music venue, is not closing.

He said via text that the building is for sale because he is “exploring options in the market.” The bar itself apparently is not for sale.
