Details are out on how you can get one of Kentucky’s most-coveted bourbons
September is coming and bourbon fans know what that means: Old Forester Birthday Bourbon.
The Louisville distiller announced that the annual release will be available through a national sweepstakes again this year. You can sign up to enter online at oldforester.com/birthday-bourbon-sweepstakes/ Aug. 24-30 for a chance at this limited edition bourbon that is one of the most-sought-after yearly expressions.
Winners will be chosen on Sept. 2, the birthday of the brand’s original creator, George Garvin Brown.
“Every year, Birthday Bourbon is a unique opportunity for lovers of Old Forester to taste a snapshot of bourbon that was laid down over a decade ago. This year’s 12-year-old offering serves up a classic Old Forester profile that honors George Garvin Brown’s ongoing legacy,” said Old Forester Master Taster Melissa Rift in a news release.
Where to buy Old Forester Birthday Bourbon
If you’re lucky enough to be selected, you can buy your bottle at the Old Forester Distillery in Louisville Sept. 8-Dec. 23. Suggested retail price is $169.99.
No bottles will be sold at the distillery on Sept. 2, according to the release. But some will be available at select retail stores nationwide.
What makes Old Forester bourbon special?
This year’s Birthday Bourbon is 96 proof. It was bottled from 103 barrels filled on May 5, 2011, that were housed on the fifth floor of Warehouse I for 12 years.
According to the tasting notes, the 2023 version has a nose of bright candied citrus and floral overtones with rich turbinado sugar and roasted coffee beans, slight cedar and charred oak. On the palate, it has subtle citrus with heavy notes of dark honey, molasses and charred oak. The finish is dry, toasted oaked caramel with lingering bittersweet tannins.
Old Forester is the foundation brand for Louisville-headquartered Brown-Forman, founded in 1870.
