Woodford Reserve’s most-coveted bourbon is hitting shelves in Kentucky and nationally
Ready to line up in the snow, bourbon fans? One of the most coveted annual releases is hitting shelves and landing in new places this year.
Woodford Reserve’s Double Double Oaked, the distillery’s extra-aged release, launched as part of the Distillery Series in 2015 and quickly became one of the most sought-after bottles in American Whiskey, with fans lining up at the distillery’s gift shop.
It always sells out within hours.
What makes this bourbon special?
“Rare and revered, this handcrafted double-barreled bourbon has a deep richness, unlike any other American whiskey on the market,” master distiller Elizabeth McCall said in a news release. “Resting 5-7 years in the first barrel, then up to two years in a second barrel, this liquid features extraordinary flavor notes. It is unexpected and complex.”
Where to find Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked
Double Double Oaked will be available at the distillery at 7785 McCracken Pike in Versailles in limited amounts beginning at 10 a.m. Jan. 13. While supplies last, you can buy up to 2 bottles per person.
It’s also available online at shop.woodfordreserve.com for shipping in Kentucky, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire and Washington D.C. and on shelves at select Kentucky retailers as in past years.
For the first time this year, Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked Bourbon will be available nationally at fine retailers and at select domestic military exchange stores.
Details on proof, price
This year, the 700 ml bottles are 90.4 proof, with a suggested retail price of $199.99. But unless you’re lucky enough to get it at the distillery, you’ll likely pay much more.
Double Double Oaked is made by finishing fully mature Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon for an additional two years in a second, heavily toasted, lightly charred new oak barrel.
Double Double Oaked 2025 tasting notes
The extra time adds spice to a bourbon known for its sweeter taste and finish.
According to the tasting notes, it’s the color of roasted coffee bean and has a nose of a robust medley of rich maple syrup, dark butterscotch, brittle caramel, bittersweet chocolate, burnt marshmallow and sweet hickory smoke.
On the palate, it’s rich dried cherry and cranberry fruit in a blackberry jam brightened with hints of ripe apple, with chai tea and warming clove notes and a warm and drying finish with lingering clove.
