Barrell Craft Spirits, the Louisville-based brand that specilizes in blending, has released a new 12-year French Oak Cask Strength Bourbon.
The limited release is a blend of Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and Wyoming straight bourbons that have been extra-aged in French oak casks with different levels of toasting to achieve a rich depth of flavor.
On the palate, it’s warm nutmeg and aromatic allspice, followed by toasted hazelnut and creamy vanilla, and a finish of worn leather, according to the tasting notes.
“French oak offers a more refined subtle contribution compared to heavily toasted American Oak barrels used for initial maturation or heavy charring, adding layers of flavor without overpowering the bourbon itself,” Joe Beatrice, BCS founder, said in a statement.
It’s bottled at 108.5 proof, and only 1,500 bottles are available.
The 12-year French Oak Cask Finish Bourbon is available at barrellbourbon.com and at select retailers with a suggested retail price of $159 per 750ml bottle.
