Brown-Forman to spend $50 million on distillery, tourist spot near Dublin

Louisville-based Brown-Forman announced late Tuesday that the company will invest $50 million to build a new distillery and tourism experience north of Dublin on the County Meath estate of Henry Conyngham, the eighth Marquess Conyngham and his son, Alex, Earl of Mount Charles.

The Slane Irish Whiskey Distillery is expected to be completed in the summer of 2016. The as-yet-unnamed brand will be released in spring 2017, at first using purchased whiskey. Brown-Forman purchased the shares of Slane Castle Irish Whiskey Limited but not the brand name.

Irish whiskey is one of the fastest-growing segments of distilled spirits. Brown-Forman, the parent of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey and Woodford Reserve bourbon, will release fourth quarter and yearly earnings on Wednesday.
