Listen up, foodies, here’s how to cook your way to this year’s Kentucky Derby

Do you love food and the Kentucky Derby? How about a terrific but simple Derby party recipe? Then Churchill Downs needs your help.

The Louisville racetrack announced on Tuesday it is conducting a national search to find someone to help chef David Danielson finalize the official menu that will be served to thousands on the first Saturday in May.

To become the honorary “Official Menu Taste Tester of the 146th Kentucky Derby” you have to enter a contest. Only the first 100 entries, submitted by Feb. 12, will be considered.

To enter, submit your favorite original Kentucky Derby party recipe along with an (optional) photo of the finished dish. Danielson will choose the winner based on:

Creativity: Originality of recipe;

Simplicity: Ease of preparation;

Festivity: Derby party theme.

You must be 21 or older to enter, a resident of the contiguous United States and meet all other submission guidelines. Go online to kentuckyderby.com/146menucontest for details.

Besides the title, the winner gets a trip to Louisville with a guest in March 2020 to taste their way through “fresh takes on classic Kentucky fare to help select the final dishes for this year’s official Derby menu,” according to the release.

You also will get dining vouchers to great restaurants, including Danielson’s Old Stone Inn & Tavern in Shelbyville, tickets to the Kentucky Derby on May 2 and $1,000.

“The Kentucky Derby is more than just the greatest two minutes in sports – it’s a celebration of authentic Kentucky flavors, ingredients and traditions, both at Churchill Downs and across the country as viewers celebrate at home,” Danielson said in a news release. “I’m excited to bring in the culinary expertise of a passionate foodie to add a special twist to this year’s menu and our culinary traditions.”
