New sweet shop alert: 55 kinds of chocolate to pair with wine, bourbon, other spirits

Fans of chocolate and other forms of indulgence, there’s a new shop to put on your radar: Chocomania, which opened this week in Georgetown.

Christine Sawalha, who owns Chocomania with her husband, Adel Ammari, said she was inspired to open the shop at 739 S. Broadway by her own preferences: “Chocolate and wine are my two favorite things.”

The shop has more than 55 chocolate items, from all over the world, she said, from truffles to artisan chocolate items.

And she can help you pair the chocolates with wine, bourbon and other and spirits.

“I always thought of combining them into one shop,” she said, that would cater to the joy of adults and children.

It's cold outside, come buy from these Hot Coco Spoons, just dip them in your hot milk & swirl, yummeeeee, yummyyyyyy, youppeee

Chocomania also sells a variety of Turkish Delight, flavored gummy treats imported from Turkey, as well as a big selection of jelly beans.

Sawalha said she and her husband used to own a food truck and sold Mediterranean food, including gyros and baklava. And people were crazy for the baklava, which got her to thinking that a shop devoted to sweets could be a hit.

She plans to introduce baklava at the shop, and will add more items every couple of months.
