Ale-8-One reviving original soda that company’s founder created for his wife
To celebrate Ale-8-One’s 121st anniversary, the soda company is “bringing back the good” by revamping one of its original flavors as a limited seasonal run.
Roxa Kola, the founding flavor during Ale-8-One’s launch more than 100 years ago, will return to the shelves in Kentucky on Nov. 1, the Winchester soda company announced. The flavor was created by the brand’s creator George Wainscott in honor of his wife, Roxanne.
“This love story would serve as the foundation for the Kentucky staple that would come 20 years later,” said Ale-8-One in a press release. “Before “A Late One” there was Roxa Kola.”
Roxa Kola is being revived and reinvented after a 55-year hiatus. The soda company said it’s taken two years to update the recipe to “ensure it meets the “Wainscott Worthy” standard.”
“We think this update on Roxa Kola is the perfect mix of where we’ve been and where we’re going. After all, knowing who you are and what you stand for is always in good taste,” said Daphne Phipps, Director of Product Excellence and Innovation, in the release.
Limited bottles of the retro Roxa Kola will be available during the company’s seasonal holiday season as a tribute to family traditions.
“Preserving a family legacy is a difficult business. However, that natural friction forces out the very best of our passions to create,” said Ale-8-One CMO Kevin Price in the release. “From the flavor to the branding, we gave acute care to the little things and added a few sprinkles of things done a just bit differently so that tastemakers and flavor seekers alike take notice.”
