Dad's Favorites spreads itself around with new deli

Dad's Favorites, the maker of a line of cheese spreads, now has a deli where you may buy carry-out sandwiches made from the specialty items.

The menu features six sandwiches: smoky pimento BLT, pepper Jack club, green chili Jack smoked turkey, Asiago pot roast, chipotle Cheddar roast beef, and Swiss and country ham melt.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Dad's Favorites Deli is at 820 Lane Allen Road, in back of the arcade near Big Lots in Garden Springs Shopping Center. Call (859) 309-1930 or go to Dadsfavorites.com.

■ Two top American beer brewers will visit Lexington next week.

Greg Koch of Stone Brewing in Escondido, Calif., will be at Pazzo's Pizza Pub from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday. Koch will sign copies of his book, The Craft of Stone Brewing Co. There also will be several special kegs of Stone beer on tap for the evening including Stone chipotle smoked porter. Tickets are $25. Pazzo's is at 385 South Limestone. ■ Holly Hill Inn chef Nathanial Henton will create a Kentucky Proud dinner for Equus Run Vineyard's "Behind the Scenes" chef series Sunday.

The dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., will be at the winery, 1280 Moores Mill Road, just outside Midway. The three-course tapas menu includes Henton's Big Shrimpin' prawns sautéed with garlic; kabocha squash salad with toasted almonds, prosciutto and Parmesan; and Boca negra Napoleon with pecans, fresh berries and white chocolate sauce.

Guests will tour the winery and participate in wine-making activities, such as sampling from barrels and blending. The cost is $50. Call Equus Run at (859) 846-9463.

■ Winchell's, 348 Southland Drive, will have its seventh annual karaoke Halloween party Oct. 28. The party begins at 10 p.m., and there will be a costume contest and drink specials. Call (859) 278-9424.

Announcements

■ Acres of Land Winery in Madison County won five medals at the Wines of the South competition earlier this month in Knoxville.

The vignoles scored gold, and the winery's new vintage Marie's merlot won a silver. Three bronze medals were awarded to the winery for its new vintage cabernet, sweet concord and Willie Mae's blackberry dessert wine.

The Colonel's Ridge cabernet and Marie's merlot are the first two select barrel blended vintages crafted by Acres of Land's new winemaker, Brian Neighbors. A former winery owner from Illinois, Neighbors has won 350 medals from national and international competitions during the past 10 years.

Winning wines will be displayed Friday and Saturday at the annual Tennessee Food and Wine Show at the Knoxville Convention Center.

Weekend specials

■ The weekend specials at The Julep Cup, 111 Woodland Avenue, include Low Country she-crab soup, champagne and vanilla poached pear salad, Maine lobster pot pie; Vietnamese shrimp and pork-stuffed chicken wings, beer- battered cod with celery root remoulade, Boyd's apple and bourbon dumplings, and bourbon-barbecued spare ribs with caramelized root vegetables.
