Enjoy corned beef, blintzes, challah at the Jewish Food Festival
The Jewish Food Festival, which debuted last year, is back on Sunday. From 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. you can sample all kinds of treats such as challah, rugelach and hamentaschen at Temple Adath Israel, 124 North Ashland Avenue. For $20 you get 16 tickets to pay for your selections; children 12 and under are free.
New to the menu this year are brisket, corned beef sandwiches, blintz casserole and tzimmes, a sweet vegetable stew. The corned beef and pastrami also will be locally made this year; it’s coming from Lynagh’s on Woodland Avenue. They join such traditional items as potato latkes, knishes and borscht. For dessert, there’s honey cake, coconut macaroons and mandelbrot (the Jewish version of biscotti) to the lineup.
This year’s festival is expanding to the temple’s lawn, where there will be seating under tents. During the food festival, the temple’s sanctuary and Holocaust Museum will be open, and, for $1, a calligrapher will write guests’ names in Hebrew.
