Riding a wave of buzz from fans of Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty show, McDonald’s is bringing back its Szechuan sauce for one day only: Saturday.

And it will only be at some locations (one in Lexington) and in (very) limited supply.

In Lexington, sauce lovers will need to go to the McDonald’s at 357 South Limestone next to the University of Kentucky campus. The sauce will be available dine-in only, on a first-come, first-serve basis with the purchase of McDonald’s Buttermilk Crispy Tenders beginning at 2 p.m., while supplies last.

And for those who aren’t lucky enough to land the sauce, McDonald’s is also giving away limited edition posters celebrating all 10 sauces for the tenders, including Szechuan, at the locations on Tates Creek and Harrodsburg roads, and in Berea, Morehead, Richmond and Georgetown.

A joke about McDonald’s Szechuan Sauce was included in the season three premiere of “Rick and Morty” last spring, and since then, fans have been lobbying the fast-food chain to bring it back.

It was first offered in 1998 as a tie-in with the Disney movie “Mulan.” When Rick told Morty his sole motivation is “that McNugget sauce. I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty. That’s my series arc, Morty! If it takes nine seasons!” the fast-food chain took notice.

It sent the show’s co-creator, Justin Roiland, a half gallon of it and hinted that there would be more to come: “A few lucky fans will also get to experience the glory, but the first bottle in this dimension is for you.” Four one-oz. bottles of the sauce were included in an early-September raffle for Hurricane Harvey relief.
