Krispy Kreme is introducing its first-ever gingerbread doughnut, for one day only, on Dec. 12, which happens to be National Gingerbread House Day.

This version will be spiced with cinnamon and ginger, giving it the gingerbread taste. And, instead of the traditional Krispy Kreme glaze, this version will have a hint of molasses, the doughnut maker says.

This is the first time that Krispy Kreme Doughnuts has changed both the dough and glaze, according to Krispy Kreme, to create an all new holiday favorite.

“Gingerbread is a classic holiday flavor, and now there’s a delicious new way to enjoy it with the classic qualities of our original glazed doughnut,” said Jackie Woodward, chief marketing officer of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. “We take the holiday fun of gingerbread houses and celebrate it with the never-ending fun of original glazed doughnuts.”

The doughnut is available at participating stores, including in Lexington, Louisville, Bowling Green and Owensboro.

And if gingerbread isn’t your thing, Krispy Kreme also has special holiday doughnuts: this year’s versions include chocolate with sprinkles, Santa belly chocolate filled and melted snowman creme filled.
