Longtime UK pizza and beer hangout closed ‘until further notice’

A UK student haunt just off campus is shuttered, at least for now.

Pazzo’s Pizza Pub, at 385 South Limestone, is closed. A sign on the door said the bar and restaurant “is currently closed until further notice.”

It is unclear when Pazzo’s closed or if it will reopen; the restaurant’s Facebook page appeared to have been deleted. There was no mention of a change on the Pazzo’s web site.

The Pazzo’s location does not appear to have an active liquor license, according to the Kentucky Alcoholic Beverage Control database.

The restaurant was sold by Tom Behr in 2018 to Seth Bennett, who also owns Two Keys Tavern and Stagger Inn. Bennett could not be reached immediately for comment on Wednesday.

Bennett bought the business, along with the building and a parking lot behind it in May 2018.

According to the Fayette County PVA database, the building at 385 South Limestone sold for $2,244,000 and the parking lot at 556 South Upper Street sold for $641,000 to BFB Holdings LLC. Bennett, Ryan Foster, John Bruce and Cary Bruce are listed as the members of BFB Holdings on the Kentucky Secretary of State’s web site.

Pazzo’s opened in March 2000, with a selection craft and imported beers, hand-crafted pizza and calzones.

The location on Limestone made it a popular spot for college students, particularly during basketball season.

The restaurant was placed on probation by the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department in December 2018 after an inspector found, among other things, expired food in coolers, including meatballs, peppers, onions and broccoli.
