A bar with wide-open views: Historic Lexington building getting a new rooftop look
Lexington’s skyline is about to get another vantage point. A new rooftop bar will be coming to the corner of Limestone and Church streets.
Javier and Aimee Lanza, who created and own Centro on Cheapside, have purchased the historic building at 161 North Limestone.
They plan to renovate it from top to bottom, starting with the top.
The Lanzas have hire Gibson Taylor Thompson Architecture to design a glass-walled fourth floor that will be going onto the three-story building.
Graves & Graves will handle construction.
The space will become 2020 Rooftop, a bar and event space with wide-open views of the city.
The first floor of the building houses George’s Deli, which will be renovated after the business owner retires at the end of next year. That space will continue to be a restaurant, according to the Lanzas.
“We want to keep a restaurant in there of some sort,” Aimee Lanza said. “We’re looking (for) the right person.”
The second floor will be an open-floor space that they plan to lease for offices, or niche retail such as a yoga studio. The third floor will service the needs of the upstairs bar as well as other businesses.
They hope to open the new bar in the first half of 2020.
