This Lexington dining spot just made a national ‘best new restaurants of 2019’ list

A Lexington restaurant is getting some national love after being named one of the top 20 new restaurants in 2019 according to OpenTable.

Epping’s on Eastside made the list with a score of four and a half stars, based on more than 350 reviews that gave it a 93 percent recommended rating. The list was based on OpenTable diner reviews of restaurants that opened in 2019 and met a minimum number of reviews to qualify for consideration, according to the reservations service, which is part of Booking.com.

“Epping’s on Eastside, which is in a historic, restored building, takes inspiration from its location, and serves cured meats sourced from local farmers,” an Insider.com article said about the restaurant being named to the list. “Accordingly, Epping’s on Eastside has integrated into the community, becoming well respected by both the neighborhood and tourists in search of a locals spot.”

Epping’s, the second restaurant from Lexington chef Cole Arimes, who also has Coles 735 Main, opened in January 2019 at the corner of Walton and National.

The restaurant has several components, including a bakery, a tony bar and dining area, a family-friendly Poppy & Olive area, a beer-hall style sports bar area and private rooms.

And the menu has built a loyal following over the last year, with lots of house-made items on the menu, including pastrami, pickles and fried bologna.

Another Kentucky restaurant, Steak and Bourbon in Louisville, also made the OpenTable list. According to Insider, the new restaurant manages to stand out from the steakhouse pack “with its warm, red-based design palette.” Diners said the food was exactly what they were looking for in a steak house.

The Louisville location is at 1321 Herr Lane, Suite 130. The concept is from chefs Fernando and Yaniel Martinez, who have created several popular local restaurants including Havana Rumba, Mojito Tapas, Guaca-Mole, Artesano, Mussel & Burger Bar, Taco Luchador and more.
