Popular Lexington barbecue restaurant is closing but you can still get one last taste
A popular Lexington barbecue joint is closing its doors. But there is still time for fans to swing by and get one last pulled-pork sandwich or some brisket.
Lyles BBQ Company announced on social media on Tuesday morning that the restaurant on Clays Mill is shutting down.
“It is with great sadness that we’re announcing that this will be our last week selling BBQ. We’ve really enjoyed the last five years with you guys. The support you guys showed brought us all the way from a tent on the side of the road to our location on Clays Mill,” the restaurant said in a post on Facebook.
“As of now, the plan is to be open until Saturday. We’ll be making a certain amount of BBQ every day and will probably run out around 3 in the afternoon. We’d love for you guys to come and see us one more time before we shut it down. Again, thank you for all of the support. It’s been a crazy ride.”
The restaurant specialized in smoked meats, made-from-scratch sides and desserts that won a loyal following.
Owner Chandler Lyles could not be reached immediately for comment.
The Lyles family opened a barbecue restaurant beside a gas station in Nicholasville that proved so popular they moved to Lexington a few years ago as the city underwent a barbecue boom.
They also opened a location on Fayette Mall’s food court. That location close in August, according to a mall spokeswoman.
In 2019, the Lyles family opened a second concept, Nash’s Southern Table & Bar on Southland Drive, with a more diverse menu, including food from Jennifer “Mama” Lyles. But that restaurant closed in September 2019 after only four months.
Fans of Lyles BBQ quickly reacted with dismay. “Oh no. Y’all catered our wedding after we stalked your food truck for years, and we still get compliments from how great the food was. I hate to see y’all throw in the towel / wish you the best!,” posted Angel Brooke.
Several vowed to get there before the ‘cue runs out this week.
Chandler Lyles, his parents Jennifer and Greg Lyles and their restaurant were on an episode of “The Profit” last year.
