For sale for months, downtown bar closes; new concept promised, but what kind?
A popular downtown nightclub announced on Facebook it has closed with indications that a new owner will bring a new concept to the location.
Parlay Social at 249 West Short St. was one of two restaurants on Short Street listed for sale last fall. It is now closed.
It appears now that Parlay Social may have sold. It was originally listed for $3,788,000 for the Prohibition-themed restaurant and bourbon bar as well as the renovated three-story building.
The club announced the news on its Facebook page, saying “To all our wonderful guests, thank you for 8+ years of great fun at Parlay Social! We appreciate everyone who visited, performed, or worked to make memorable times over the years. It’s time to move on, but we are very excited to see what the new owners bring to this great location!”
Previous owner Bob Estes was not immediately available for comment. Estes has started a new venture, Daddy Burt Hemp Co.
The other restaurant for sale on Short Street was The Village Idiot at 307 West Short. That restaurant closed in January and at the time owner Brian Behr said he was planning to reopening a new concept in the location.
Parlay Social apparently closed earlier this month; at least one live music event scheduled for Feb. 14 was canceled.
It is unclear who might be bringing a new concept to the location in the heart of Lexington’s booming dining district.
One rumored buyer, Lee Greer, said on Tuesday that it wasn’t him; that deal fell through last month.
The former bar is next to Debbie Long’s Dudley’s on Short, across the street from Ouita Michel’s Zim’s Cafe and around the corner from Belle’s Cocktail House.
