Parking spaces, park approved as additional outdoor seating for Lexington restaurants

Lexington city officials on Friday approved applications for two restaurants to add outdoor seating in public spaces.

Mayor Linda Gorton announced earlier in May that the city would allow additional tables outside to help struggling restaurants make up for the limited seating inside. Gov. Andy Beshear, who had closed dining in in March to halt the spread of the coronavirus, allowed dining in to restart on May 22 with only 33 percent of indoor capacity.

Many restaurants were eager to reopen, and several expanded their outdoor seating, which does not fall under the seating limit.

The city eased permitting to allow expansions at:

Oscar Diggs on North Limestone, which received permission to put tables in two metered parking spaces along the street.

Centro, on Cheapside, which received permission to expand into Cheapside Park.

The expansions are temporary.
