Two popular Lexington food events make pandemic pivots: You can help, participate
Two more Lexington food traditions have announced changes to their annual events. But both will still give local foodies a chance to enjoy restaurants despite the coronavirus pandemic.
AVOL’s annual Dining Out for Life day is usually a day to eat out at favorite places for breakfast, lunch and dinner to raise money for the fight against HIV.
Despite reduced indoor capacity, they found a way to make it work: This year you can dine in or get food to go from 30 restaurants on Sept. 10.
A portion of sales at the restaurants will be donated to the non-profit AIDS Volunteers of Lexington. Diners also can contribute directly at dineoutlex.com. Since 2009, Dining Out for Life has raised over $780,000 in Lexington which has provided a host of services to thousands.
Participating restaurants this year include 33 Staves at Origin Hotel, Arcadium and Favor, Azur, Burgher Burger in Richmond, Carson’s, Cole’s, Columbia Steakhouse, Doodles, Dudley’s, Epping’s, Gingko Tree Cafe, Good Foods Co-op Cafe, Graze, J. Render’s, Lexington Diner, Le Deauville, Liberty Road Cafe, Lussi Brown, Lynagh’s, Mad Mushroom, Frosty Freeze in Salt Lick, The Mousetrap, Nate’s Coffee, North Lime Donuts, Old Vine Bistro, Ranada’s Kitchen, Smithtown Seafood, Soundbar, Southern Deli, Third Street Stuff, West Sixth Brewing, West Main Crafting and Wise Bird Cider.
Taste of the Bluegrass fundraiser
Another annual dining event that draws thousands to Keeneland is going in a different direction: Taste of the Bluegrass, the fundraiser for God’s Pantry Food Bank, won’t be held.
Instead, they are offering “More Than a Meal” ticket packages for $100 each. Half goes for a generous donation to feed hungry Kentuckians; the other half will go to support local restaurants that usually provide the food and drink at the tasting event.
This year, or each ticket, you get five discount coupons you can use for $10 off an order of $20 or more at 24 participating food and beverage partners during September, which is national Hunger Action Month.
Order tickets online at GodsPantryFoodBank.org/MoreThanJustaMeal. Each ticket also enters you in a drawing for prize packages for the 2021 Taste of the Bluegrass.
