Chick-fil-A eyeing 8th Lexington location. Where does that rank for most chains in town?
Chick-fil-A is eyeing another location in Lexington and this time the popular chain is looking at the north side of town.
Plans for a new Chick-fil-A were filed with the city on Aug. 31 for “construction of a new Chick-fil-A restaurant with associated grading, paving and utilities” for a property at 295 W. New Circle Rd., complete with a double drive-thru.
The proposal calls for a driveway at 1500 Russell Cave Road too.
Chick-fil-A wouldn’t comment on when the construction might begin or when Northside fans can expect to get the popular chicken and waffle fries.
The company said in a statement: “We are always evaluating potential new locations in the hopes of serving existing and new customers great food with remarkable service. We would very much like to have more restaurants in the Lexington area, but we have no new locations to confirm at this time.”
It’s unclear when we might hear something definite on the location. A year elapsed between the news that Chick-fil-A was coming to Richmond Road and the beginning on construction on the new restaurant.
The site under consideration is the former home of the old Jalapeno’s Mexican Restaurant, which was demolished in 2017. The popular Mexican restaurant closed in 2016; there is still one location on South Broadway.
What restaurant chain has the most locations in Lexington?
This would make the fifth Chick-fil-A location in Lexington, plus two at the University of Kentucky campus and another at Fayette Mall, for eight in all.

The new Chick-fil-A location will put the chain tied in eighth place for most locations in Lexington (according to an unscientific survey.)
McDonald’s and Subway are tied for first with 20 locations each. Starbucks has 19, Wendy’s has 10 and Waffle House, Taco Bell and Jimmy John’s each have nine.
Chick-fil-A will be tied with Arby’s, Papa John’s and Domino’s, who each have eight as well.
The potential Northside location joins other chicken favorites along the road including Richie’s Chicken at 771 East New Circle Rd., Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen at 115 East New Circle Rd. and Zaxby’s Chicken Fingers and Buffalo Wings at 531 West New Circle Rd.
