Lexington bubble tea drink spot returning under new ownership

When Honnah-Lee Bubble Tea announced in mid-August that the local specialty drink shop had closed “indefinitely,” it seemed fans would have to look elsewhere for their sweet drinks.

But now Honnah-Lee is making a comeback despite the coronavirus pandemic and economic slowdown that have claimed several Lexington restaurants, including Best Friend Bar and HopCat.

Deb Shambro announced on Facebook that new owners are stepping in and plan to reopen on Oct. 1.

“This is a Happy, Happy Day! Honnah-Lee Bubble Tea will be re-opening on Thursday, October 1, 2020 under new management/ownership.

My grandson and his wife Morgan have purchased the business from me. They are busy sprucing up the place and getting ready to Open again,” she said in the post.

“Dylan and Morgan will be keeping all the same recipes for your favorite bubble teas and will be serving them with the same happy smiles. You may even see a few familiar faces at the serving counter!

I couldn’t be more excited, I had no idea they were going to make this offer but I am so grateful they did. I know all the fans Mick and I made over the years will feel the same way.”

Efforts to reach Honnah-Lee Bubble Tea for more information were not immediately successful.

The shop, which started selling bubble tea almost 10 years ago, is at 1983 Harrodsburg Rd. It also sold smoothies, juices, ice cream and Japanese treats.
