Three Chevy Chase area restaurants closed. What’s coming back and what isn’t.

Three Chevy Chase area restaurants in Lexington have closed within the last week.

The owners say the reasons vary. And two plan to come back after some changes.

A third apparently will reopen as a new restaurant, under new owners.

Tomo, 848 E. High St., officially closed this week after 20 years. Owner Cha Tamura said that the lease on the restaurant was ending and she is retiring.

Tamura said she sold the business to new owners who plan to remodel the restaurant and reopen it as a new sushi restaurant later this year.

Athenian Grill, 313 S. Ashland, has closed temporarily, said owner Illias Pappas. The restaurant will be remodeled to better fit the COVID era. Takeout will be easier to get to and pay for, he said, but the restaurant, which was his original location, still will have seating upstairs and outdoors.

Pappas posted on Facebook that they plan to reopen in October. In the meantime, the downtown location between the library and City Center remains open.

Ranada’s Kitchen, 496 E. High St., closed temporarily for several days but opened back up Sept. 10, focusing on curbside and family meals. In a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, the general manager said the staffing shortages and rising COVID numbers have convinced them to make the change.
