North Limestone restaurant, known for craft beer, closing after five years
A downtown Lexington restaurant known for its innovative food and craft beer is closing after five almost years.
But there’s still time to swing by and grab one last round.
Oscar Diggs, which opened in 2018 in the former Merit Furniture Building on North Limestone, will be closing as of July 9, according to owner Ralph Quillin.
Quillin said that the restaurant, which was originally a partnership between his Rooster Brewing in Paris and the chefs of the Gastro Gnomes food truck, thanks the community for five years of support and love.
He said that even through the pandemic the restaurant has continued to stay afloat, adding sidewalk seating and opening up the windows.
He planned to post an announcement on social media to customers, saying, “This has been an extremely difficult decision for us! Oscar Diggs has continued to be successful through it all - pandemic, staffing and the many other issues - all beyond our control.
“Living in the Bluegrass is incredibly special and we’ve had the pleasure to serve the best customers and make some incredible friends. We have experienced kindness and love and will always treasure that. We will continue to build in our community of Paris, through our vision with Quillin Leather and Tack, Captain Tuttle’s, and a few future side projects. Stay Tuned!”
He said that they will focus on their growing Quillin Leather and Tack as well as Captain Tuttle’s, a fishing and outdoors venue on Stoner Creek in Bourbon County.
The name Oscar Diggs was an oblique reference to “The Wizard of Oz,” Quillin said: Oscar Diggs was Professor Marvel in Kansas and became The Great and Powerful Oz in the Emerald City. Quillin said he just liked the name.
