Hold onto your Potato Ole’s, people: Taco John’s is coming to the Lexington area.
For real this time: Fans have been waiting for this popular restaurant with a cult following to arrive since expansion plans were announced in 2019.
Construction begins in September on the first Central Kentucky location of the Mexican fast-food chain.
The new Taco John’s will open in the Brannon Crossing shopping center between Nicholasville and Lexington at 525 E. Brannon Rd., according to a spokesman for Brett Construction Co. in Lexington.
The Tex-Mex restaurant is expected to open early next year.
The chain expects to a total of build five locations in the Lexington area over the next three years, according to Brooks Speirs, Taco John’s vice president for franchise development. All will have Taco John’s new modern look.
Taco John’s, a national chain with more than 400 locations, is known for serving traditional Mexican food with a twist, like the popular Potato Ole’s, a kind of bite-sized spicy hash brown.
Other menu items include street tacos, sirloin steak nachos, meat and potato burritos, breakfast burritos and desserts, including curros and Mexican Donut Bites.
There are Taco John’s locations in Kentucky in Somerset as well as in Madisonville, Princeton, Paducah, Benton, Murray and Henderson in Western Kentucky
Taco John’s announced plans to expand in Kentucky in 2019 but the expansion was delayed.
