New Mexican restaurant opens in high-profile location on Lexington’s North Limestone
A new restaurant has opened in a high-profile location on the north side of Lexington.
Mexico Mi Amor opened on May 9 at 780 N. Limestone, the former home of Lucie’s Red Light Kitchen and Lounge, the last restaurant owned by the late Lucie Slone Meyers. She died in July 2017 and the restaurant closed in 2019.
The building is now owned by Chad Needham, who also owns the nearby Greyline Station.
Now Roxana Hernandez has opened a family-style Mexican restaurant that serves lunch and dinner, as well as takeout.
While there are popular Tex-Mex options (or “LexMex” as the menu sometimes refers to them), Mexico Mi Amor also has more authentic options as well.
The lunch menu has a variety of specials including Carnitas a la Mexicana, pulled pork cooked with grilled onions, tomato and fresh jalapenos for $9.25.
The regular menu also includes tacos, including birria and vegetarian options, as well as other specialties such as the Chilaquiles Verdes, which are tortilla chips soaked in verde sauce and topped with queso fresca, sour cream and an egg, served with rice and beans for $12.99.
Birria, which is beef cooked until tender in chili and spices, also is on the menu, along with Mole Michoacan, with a sauce made from scratch, both for $13.25.
Torta Deliciosa, a kind of Mexican sandwich filled with your choice of steak, pastor, carnitas and lettuce, tomato and mayo, is $10.25.
Or check out the Costillitas de Puerco en Salsa Verde, which are Mexican pork ribs cooked in tomatillo sauce, served with rice and beans for $12.99.
There also are two-for-one margaritas during happy hour from 2 to 5 p.m.
There is a 75-cent charge for takeout orders, but they come with chips and salsa.
The restaurant has covered patio seating and a bar area with garage doors that open in warm weather.
