One of Lexington’s best-known restaurants is closing a location after more than 30 years.

Rob Ramsey, owner of Ramsey’s Diners, announced on Facebook the Tates Creek location will be closing after 32 years at 4053 Tates Creek Centre Dr.

Ramsey said the last day of business will be Thursday, June 22. He said employees will be allowed to transfer to the Helmsdale, Zandale, Harrodsburg Road and, beginning in early August, Masterson Station location.

“I wish to thank everyone for a great 32 years at Tates Creek, especially the thousands of incredible employees I have had the honor to work with at this store,” Ramsey said in the post. “I certainly also wish to express my appreciation to all my customers past, present and going forward in this next step.”

Many employees will help open the new store at 2751 Leestown Rd., which will be bigger and have a drive-thru for carryout, Ramsey said in an email.

“We need the people and managers for our new store,” he said. “We met with employees this morning and they all understand and are glad to stick with us through the next two weeks, and all are going to work at another location, and most want to open Masterson Station after August. Additionally all Tates Creek employees are being given a bonus to stay with us through the transition.

“This is a solid business decision which did not come lightly. I’ve loved Tates Creek and my customers. I sincerely hope they — like are staff — will bring their smiles to another Ramsey’s where they will be welcomed.”

Know for its menu of “meat and three” with seasonal homestyle vegetables, Ramsey’s opened its original location on High Street and then added the Tates Creek location. The original restaurant closed in 2014 and relocated to Zandale off of Nicholasville Road.

The other Ramsey’s locations will remain open, Ramsey said.
