A popular downtown Lexington restaurant will soon open a second location in Fayette County.

Palate Food and Drink, which operates Carson’s Food & Drink on Main Street near the intersection of High Street and Midland Avenue, has signed a lease for the former Andover Country Club main club house on Todds Road.

The club house will undergo extensive operations before the second Carson’s can open. That likely won’t happen until later this year, said Dennis Anderson of Anderson Communities, which purchased the former clubhouse and built several townhomes on the now-defunct Andover Country Club site.

An exact opening date hasn’t been set.

Carson’s opened in the former Coach Craft building on East Main Street nearly seven years ago. It has been looking for other locations for some time, Palate owners said. Carson’s focuses on American food with an emphasis on Kentucky dishes and bourbon.

“Revitalizing and making something beautiful from old buildings is something I’m very passionate about. When we took over the old Coach Craft building on Main Street,” said Mark Fichtner, owner of Palete, “nobody was sure what we could do with it. Now, after all these years of success we’ve enjoyed, I feel confident we can do it again and bring this beautiful place back to life while offering something to the Hamburg area residents they’ve been craving for years.”

The group announced the news on its Facebook page.

In addition to a bar and restaurant, the new Carson’s will also offer a private dining space for groups, Palate owners said.
