A Lexington coffee house announced over the weekend that it has closed one location.

Common Grounds Coffee House at 2901 Richmond Rd. Unit 160, closed on Nov. 18.

It’s the second location to close: In April 2021, the original coffee house at 343 E. High St. shut down after almost 29 years.

Common Grounds announced the news on social media saying, “Thank you for your patronage. It’s been a pleasure serving you all these years. We will cherish the memories and look back at the good times.”

The locations on Old Todds Road and in Hartland will remain open, Common Grounds said.

The Richmond Road location in Lakeview Plaza was popular because it had a drive thru; it opened almost five years ago.

But the competition in the Richmond Road area is heating up:

  • 7 Brew recently opened a drive-thru only coffee kiosk at 2895 Richmond Rd.;
  • The Human Bean opened a drive-thru kiosk at 2644 Richmond Rd.;
  • Panera moved into a new location at 2887 Richmond Rd. with a drive-thru;
  • There’s a Krispy Kreme at 2983 Richmond Rd.;
  • There’s a Starbucks at 2703 Richmond Rd. near the intersection with Old Todds Road;
  • And Dunkin’ is opening next year at 2890 Richmond Rd. with a drive-thru.
