Lexington restaurant known for Japanese hibachi, sushi closes abruptly

A Lexington restaurant open less than a year has closed permanently.

Koi Express, which opened at 3029 Richmond Rd. earlier this year, closed Nov. 6, according to a sign posted on the door.

Restaurant owner Sinta Tjahjadi opened the location of Koi Express after another of her concepts, The Saucy Crab, closed at the end of 2023 after about two years. Both restaurants were in a former Texas Roadhouse location that closed when the restaurant moved across Richmond Road.

Tjahjadi did not respond to a request for comment on why Koi Express closed.

A sign posted on the door said, “We are deeply grateful for your support and patronage. Thank you for being a part of our journey. With gratitude, Koi Express.”

It is unclear what might go into the restaurant spot in front of Kroger Marketplace just inside Man o’ War.

Other locations of Koi Express, which serves Japanese hibachi and sushi, remain open in London, Frankfort, Somerset and Mount Sterling.
