A popular Lexington dirty soda truck with a massive social media presence says it’s expanding and opening a brick and mortar location.
After less than two years as a truck, Fizzy Fox plans to open at 460 Southland Drive.
The new location will have an expanded menu of custom-made soda options, ice cream, longer hours and baked treats from a new Lexington baker, Golden Hour Bakery.
The father- and son-owned business plans to also keep the soda food truck in Greyline Station where they have been immensely popular online and hosting cosplayers and furries at their in-person viral events.
A furry is a person who creates for themselves an anthropomorphized animal character called a fursona. They often wear costumes — fursuits — and are active at community events and online.
“It’s primarily my son’s social media, his personal and for the business, has very large following, over 300,000 followers, pretty much on each of the different platforms,” said Daniel Osborne, whose son prefers to remain anonymous but goes by the name Khajiit Kitty online. “So I think combined total over a million followers.”
Osborne said they hope to open in the coming months at the new location, which he says will give them increased traffic from the Southland neighborhood and nearby schools.
“We were shooting within the next eight weeks (to open), but there may be some hangups,” said Osborne. “We may have to redo some of the plumbing.”
To help with expenses, they had a goal to raise $9,000 on GoFundMe.com. In less than three weeks, they have collected more than $7,500.
“My son and I are both just amazed with the social media love and support we get,” said Osborne. “We’re just two guys with this little truck and soda shop. It’s kind of grown so quickly and beyond what we kind of anticipated, and we’re grateful.”
What will be on the Fizzy Fox’s new location menu?
Osborne said the new location will have a full commercial kitchen for treats from Golden Hour Bakery, including Japanese desserts, which are popular with the anthropomorphic animal fans, also known as the furry fandom.
Golden Hour Bakery owner Victor Mitchel said he will have classic bakery offerings like cookies, cupcakes, brownies, cake pops and cakes, but with animal-themes. Japanese fluffy cheesecake, known for its light, airy texture and delicate sweetness, will also be on the menu.
“In the future, we hope to expand our menu to include Japanese milk bread and fruit sandos, bringing more soft, fresh, and visually beautiful treats to the community,” said Mitchel. “These items reflect my interest in blending traditional baking with Japanese techniques and flavors, offering something a little different and exciting for our customers.”
Osborne said other Japanese treats are also coming to the new location to “mimic or match what you would find in Japan,” including ice cream wrapped in gold leaf.
“Through social media, there are a lot of viral-type items that we would like to try to bring and recreate here,” Osborne said.
Furry Fox’s winter and spring events at Greyline Station will be on hold while the new shop is set up, Osborne said.
