New Lexington coffee shop opens with alien and space themed lounge
A new Lexington coffee shop has opened that is truly out of this world.
Caffiends Coffee House opened at the end of February just off Nicholasville Road, next to Courtesy Acura auto dealership.
The locally-owned coffee shop has a space alien theme throughout, with floor-to-ceiling murals that would make E.T. feel at home.
“The alien theme came naturally,” said Lanisa McCann, speaking for the owners. “Ownership drew up ideas that were race neutral, non-binary, and welcoming to all.”
The all-black interior even has an alien-themed pool table and chess board. The outer space feel of the lounge includes full-bar seating, couches and loveseats, garage doors and plenty of TV’s.
“The music and vibe is more hip hop and R&B than your typical coffee shop,” said McCann. “It’s a vibe, it’s not quiet.”
What drinks are on the menu at Caffiends Coffee House?
The coffee shop has a variety of coffee drinks, many of which can be served hot, cold or barista style, for espresso-based drinks.
Cold brew ($5.50) and iced matcha lattes ($6) highlight the drink menu at Caffiends Coffee House. A variety of fruit and flavors can be added for an extra cost.
Fruit smoothies ($7), protein shakes ($8.50) and teas are also on the menu, joining other coffee drinks like espresso. There’s even a UK themed drink, with the Kentucky Blue Raspberry Matcha Tea ($6.50).
Caffiends Coffee House gets its beans from a variety of Central Kentucky roasters. McCann says everything on the drink menu is Kentucky-made.
“Only the matcha comes from Japan,” said McCann. “We are truly Kentucky Proud in every way.”
Drinks can be ordered online and alcohol will soon be added to the menu for items like an espresso martini, Irish coffee, and Black or White Russian.
There’s also a selection of baked goods from Martine’s Pastries, North Lime Donuts (Friday only) and Spalding’s Bakery.
