Why this Lexington ice cream shop is being praised by popular foodie magazine
A popular Lexington small batch ice cream shop received some big-time recognition recently.
Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream’s Bourbon & Honey flavor was named to Food & Wine magazine’s list of “essential ice cream flavors for all 50 States.”
The popular foodie publication praised the Lexington creamery for its use of Buffalo Trace Bourbon with local honey from Hosey’s in Midway in the brown sugar base.
The story highlighted 50 different ice creams that have regional flavor and “tells the story of a destination in a way that few other foods or landmarks ever could.”
“The United States is full of regional flavors, and each state has one ice cream flavor that, in all likelihood, is not going to be better licked anywhere else,” the story said.
Bourbon & Honey has been a staple of Crank & Boom’s menu since owner Toa Green started the local ice cream brand in 2013.
Scoops and pints of Bourbon & Honey ice cream are available at Crank & Boom’s original Distillery District location and the Clays Mill store. It’s also for sale from its food truck and online on Goldbelly.
