LexGo Eat: Valentine’s dining guide

The last few LexGo Eat columns, we have been gathering Valentine dining tips for this weekend. If you are still looking for that perfect romantic dinner destination or sweet treat, here’s a compilation of all of those items, plus a few more.

▪  Windy Corner Market, 4595 Bryan Station Road, will set the mood for love Feb. 13-14 with fresh flowers and a three-course dinner-for-two special, with choice of entree. Wine specials also available. Call 859-294-9338.

▪  Marikka's, 411 Southland Drive, will have a Valentine's special on Feb. 12 and 13 of paprikas Chicken with wine gravy, served with mashed potatoes & green beans for $12.95. All entrees receive complimentary strawberry shortcake. Dine in or carry out. Call 859-275-1925 to order or make reservations.

▪  Dudley's on Short, 259 West Short Street, will have a special three-course menu from chef Mark Richardson for Valentine's Day on Feb. 14. For $70 per person, choose between a variety of entrees including pheasant and chateaubriand for two. Full menu is online at dudleysrestaurant.com. Some specials also will be available Feb. 13. ▪  Stella’s Kentucky Deli, 143 Jefferson Street, is offering a four-course Valentine’s Day dinner for $35 a person for Feb. 13 and 14. Reservations are recommended. Call 859-255-3354. Entree choices include trout almondine, Kentucky beef tenderloin or truffled mushroom risotto.

▪  On Feb. 13 and 14, Smithtown Seafood, 501 West Sixth Street, will serve a Valentine’s Day plate for two: Two tacos de amore (fried oyster tacos with apple beet slaw on local tortilla with XO sauce); four seafood pot stickers (dumplings filled with ginger and garlic seafood sausage served with plum soy); two chili crab hand rolls (seasoned rice topped with lump crab meat tossed with gochujang, ponzu and cucumber, wrapped in nori cone); and calamari with sweet chili sauce. ▪  Wallace Station, 3854 Old Frankfort Pike, just outside Midway, has Valentine’s Day specials Saturday and Sunday: Aphrodite salad, with lettuces, pomegranate, avocado, strawberries, goat cheese and pumpkin seeds; Casanova burger, made with local beef topped with a trio of fried oysters, roasted garlic aioli, bacon and pepper jack cheese; and VLT grilled chicken sandwich with mozzarella, sriracha mayo, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion. ▪  Le Deauville, 199 North Limestone, will have a Valentine’s Day special three-course meal for $49 a person on Feb. 14. There’s a choice of appetizer, main course and dessert. Reservations are required. Call 859-246-0999.

▪  Capital Cellars, 227 West Broadway in Frankfort, will host Valentine’s bourbon or wine tastings on Feb. 13, with seatings at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. The cost is $45 a couple. The bourbons are Elmer T. Lee, Woodford Reserve Double Oak, and Jim Beam’s Booker’s with a food pairing plate and tasting notes. The wines are Louis Jadot Pouilly-Fusse 2014 Chardonnay, Domaine Chaume-Arnaud 2012 Grenache Blend, Taken Red Blend, and a classic Tawny Port from Whisker’s Blake. Single seatings are available for $22.50. Call 501-352-2600 to buy tickets.

▪  Lexington Seafood, 867 High Street, has special prices for king crab and live Maine lobster for Valentine’s Day. Call 859-266-8888 to order.

▪  The Midway Bakery, 510 South Winter Street in Midway, will have heart-shaped cookies, raspberry truffle cupcakes and cheesecake red velvet brownies for Valentine’s Day. Call 859-846-4336.

▪  Missy’s Pie Shop, 502 East High Street, has “sweetheart” cookies, 9-inch chocolate chip or sugar cookies with a variety of sweetheart messages, for $4.50. Cookies also are available at all Ramsey’s restaurants. If you want a specific message, call 859-253-0449 at least one day in advance to custom order for $5.50.

▪  Ruth Hunt Candies, 213 Walton Avenue and 550 North Maysville Road in Mount Sterling, has chocolate-dipped strawberries, heart-shaped boxes of chocolates and bourbon balls. Call 1-800-275-8777.

▪  Old Kentucky Chocolates, 450 Southland Drive, will have chocolate-dipped strawberries and grapes, heart boxes and novelties for kids and adults. Popular this year: chocolate- and caramel-dipped potato chips. Call 859-278-4444.

▪  Sharp’s Candies, 2021 Regency Road, has chocolate-covered strawberries and grapes, plus more than 100 types of candies. Call 859-276-4625.

▪  La Petite Delicat, 445 South Ashland Avenue, will have beautiful Valentine’s macarons in new flavors: red velvet, chocolate raspberry and ispahan (rose/lycee/raspberry). They are available separately or in a special six-piece gift box, and can be shipped. Call 859-266-0041 or order at Lapetitedelicat.com.

▪  Martine’s Pastries, 1039 Industry Road, has a selection of Valentine’s Day cakes and treats, including chocolate-dipped strawberries, French macarons, chocolate bombe (chocolate mousse covered with chocolate ganache and decorated with edible hearts), decorated sugar heart cookies, champagne and strawberry cake, and triple chocolate cake. Order at 859-231-9110 or visit the shop until 4 p.m. Feb. 13.

▪  Donut Days, 185 Southland Drive and 814 Euclid Avenue in Lexington, and 330 Eastern Bypass in Richmond, will have iced doughnuts, cookies, sugar cut-out cookies, thumbprint cookies, cupcakes, petit fours and bon-bons. ▪  Magee’s Bakery, 726 East Main Street, will have Valentine’s cookies and cupcakes. Call 859-255-9481 to order.

▪  Caramanda’s Bake Shoppe, 332 Southland Drive and 3805 Dylan Place, has a large assortment of Valentine’s cakes and cupcakes, as well as chocolate-dipped strawberry cookies. You even may pre-order a “box of chocolates” that the shop describes as six cupcakes filled with a variety of homemade buttercreams for $16.50. Call 859-278-7172.

▪  Mondelli’s Bakeshop, 3120 Pimlico Parkway, has heart-shaped cakes, Valentine’s themed cupcakes, sugar cookies and iced cookies and petit fours. Call 859-245-5377 to order.
