Bluegrass Eggfest: grilling on Green Eggs; Chevy Chase Street Fair returns

Housewarmings, 2312 Palumbo Drive, will host Bluegrass Eggfest, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. There will be a grilling competition featuring Bella Notte, Lyles BBQ, Wild Thyme, Athenian Grill, City BBQ, Mr. Kebab, Papa Murphy’s and Han Cook In among the 50-plus grilling booths. There also will be classes on grilling with the Big Green Egg and a book-signing by Maggie Green, author of Tasting Kentucky, Favorite Recipes from the Bluegrass State. Buy tickets in advance at Housewarmingseggfest.com and you’ll get 12 food tickets for $10. One food ticket gets you a sample; three food tickets will get you a small plate serving. The event is a fundraiser for GreenHouse17, which helps those harmed by intimate partner abuse. The event is free. Call 859-231-0005.

▪  The 6th annual Chevy Chase Street Fair is 4 to 10 p.m. Aug. 27, at 836 Euclid Avenue, the Chevy Chase Plaza with food and drinks from area vendors as well as art and other items for sale. There will be live music, street shopping at neighborhood businesses and a kids’ area featuring On The Move Art Studio. Food vendors include Bourbon n’ Toulouse, Joella’s Hot Chicken, Girls, Girls, Girls Burritos, McCallister’s, Graeter’s, Donut Days bakery; Double H BBQ; Kroger and Charlie Brown’s. Local beers and drinks will be sold. Bourbon n’ Toulouse will have gator etouffee, all-beef franks, chili dogs and andouille sausage.

▪  Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate, 120 Sycamore Road, will host its annual croquet tournament from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday. The Gingko Tree Cafe, featuring sandwiches and salads from Athenian Grill, will be open; Willie’s Locally Known, Sav’s Chill Wagon and West Sixth Brewing also will have items for sale. ▪  Alfalfa, 141 East Main Street, has new brunch menu including hot pepper omelet, eggs Florentine and breakfast poutine: Two poached eggs on a bed of Alfafries with bacon, mozzarella, onion-peppercorn gravy, chopped scallion and red chili sauce. ▪  Capital Cellars, 227 West Broadway, is hosting a brandy tasting with Copper & Kings, the Louisville distiller of American brandy matured in bourbon barrels, from 4 to 7 p.m. Reserve a seat on Capital Cellars’ Facebook page. ▪  Jessamine Growers Farmers Market, 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Main and Rice in Wilmore, will have seasonal produce, local honey and eggs, cut flowers, perennials and trees.

▪  Chevy Chase Farmers Market, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at 316 South Ashland Avenue, will have cut flowers, beer cheese, muffins, seasonal produce, chicken, pork, duck, beef, lamb and eggs.

▪  Bluegrass Farmers Market, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 3070 Lakecrest Circle and 1837 Plaudit Place, will have seasonal produce, honey, jams and jellies, baked goods, flowers, eggs, beef, pork and lamb.

▪  Lexington Farmers Market, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Cheapside Park and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Southland Drive, will have seasonal produce, meats and eggs, bread and honey, plants and flowers.

▪  Boone Creek Creamery, 2462 Palumbo Drive, will have butterkase, caerphilly and gruyere at farmers markets this weekend.

▪  Grimes Mill Winery, 6707 Grimes Mill Road, will have free live music 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

▪  Mark your calendars: The Organic Association of Kentucky, and the Louisville Courier-Journal, Louisville Farm to Table, and Whole Foods will present Feast O.F.F. (Organic Food Festival) noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 3 at ReSurfaced in Louisville. It’s free, with tastes of food for $3 each. Restaurants and food trucks expected at the event include Harvest, Decca, Ramsi’s Cafe on the World, 502 Cafe Smokehouse, Sweet & Savory, Holly Hill Inn, Missing Link, and Churchill Downs’ executive chef David Danielson. The event is a fundraiser for the OAK.
