Families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman Comment on Mark Fuhrman's Passing
The families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Lyle Goldman broke their silence on the death of former Los Angeles Police Department detective Mark Fuhrman, a key figure in the O.J. Simpson murder trial.
On Monday, news broke that Fuhrman had passed away at age 74 on May 12 after a battle with throat cancer. Fuhrman is survived by his fourth wife, Kelly, daughter Haley, and son Cole.
Police discovered the bodies of Nicole and Goldman (a close friend of hers) outside her Brentwood condo on June 12, 1994. Fuhrman testified that he a found bloody glove at O.J. Simpson's Rockingham estate after the murders.
Ronald's father, Fred Goldman, broke his silence on Fuhrman's passing.
"Anytime anyone dies, it's a shame," Fred told TMZ.
Nicole's sister, Tanya Brown, issued a statement to TMZ:
"This is a big one and a huge loss," Tanya said. "I think Mark's legacy should not be based around our trial. He did good outside of the trial and we all make mistakes...I don't wish death upon anyone and I think he did a lot of good in his life and people need to focus on the good he did. It's another chapter of Nicole, gone.
"Anytime someone passes from our case, it's hard. I'm glad he's not in pain anymore. He played an instrumental role in our case. He was not at fault for the demise of the case. I never held anything against him. I hope he lived the rest of his years in peace. I'm shocked and I'm sad."
Fuhrman worked for the LAPD from 1975 to 1995, retiring before Simpson was acquitted of the murders.
O.J. Simpson's Defense Team Damaged Prosecution's Case by Going After Mark Fuhrman
The defense argued that Fuhrman and LAPD investigators, in a racially motivated move, planted DNA evidence to frame Simpson.
Fuhrman took the stand and denied ever using racial slurs against African Americans. However, the defense found old tapes of him repeatedly using slurs in a series of interviews with screenwriter Laura McKinny.
The defense questioned Fuhrman again on the stand, but he pleaded the Fifth at his lawyer's advice. Ultimately, the jury determined that the defense provided plenty of reasonable doubt, acquitting Simpson of both murders.
