5 Ways Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses Make Travel Easier

Our smartphones are lifesavers when it comes to travel. But fumbling with a phone while juggling a suitcase, the all-important Starbucks, and my laptop bag isn’t easy. That’s why Meta AI Glasses are a better choice for travel. They do all the things my phone does, but hands-free.

Here are the five features that stand out most for travel:

  • Hands-free photos and videos for moments when your phone is buried in your bag.
  • Voice directions so you can navigate without staring down at a screen.
  • Open-ear audio for music, calls and travel days without blocking everything around you.
  • Live translation tools for conversations in supported languages.
  • Less screen time so you can stay more present while traveling.

As a travel writer, I spend a lot of time on the road trying to do three things at once: find my way, capture the moment and keep track of whatever I'm carrying. That might mean grabbing a photo of a sunset, shooting video from an airboat ride in the Florida Everglades or trying to navigate back to my hotel without looking completely lost.

That is exactly why Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses caught my attention. They are designed to help travelers take photos and videos, hear directions, listen to audio, ask questions and use translation tools without constantly pulling out a phone. The first-generation Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses are also 25% off through May 25, 2026.

The Best Travel Uses for Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses

1. Hands-Free Photos and Videos

This is my hands-down favorite reason to try a pair of Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses.

I carry a lot when I travel. Right now, I'm in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where it's 90 degrees and humid. I don't go anywhere without a fan and a refillable water bottle. By the time I add a bag, sunglasses and whatever else I'm hauling around that day, I don't always have a free hand to grab my phone and frame the shot.

With Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses, I could look at what I want to capture and say, "Hey Meta, take a photo" or "Hey Meta, take a video." The Gen 1 glasses include a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, according to Ray-Ban's product information.

That matters when the moment is happening fast. A sunset does not wait for you to dig through your tote bag. Neither does a kid jumping into a pool, a parade float passing by or wildlife appearing for three seconds on a tour.

2. Ask for Directions Without Looking Down

I can get lost pretty much anywhere, so I consider GPS one of the world's greatest inventions.

The problem is that walking around with my phone in front of my face while trying to figure out "head southeast" is basically the travel version of wearing a sign that says, "I'm not from here."

That is where voice directions make sense. Instead of holding my phone and constantly checking the map, I can ask for directions and hear guidance through the glasses' built-in open-ear speakers. Meta's current product information also highlights Meta AI features for asking questions and getting information hands-free.

For travel, that could mean getting back to a hotel, finding a restaurant, asking about a landmark or figuring out which way to walk after stepping out of a rideshare.

3. Built-In Audio for Travel Days

I dislike wearing earbuds for hours at a time. I dislike even more that having them tucked into my ears makes it harder to hear what is going on around me.

That matters in airports. I learned that lesson at O'Hare when American Airlines changed my gate assignment. Luckily, I looked up in time, saw the new gate and made it there before boarding.

Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses use open-ear audio, which means sound is directed to your ears without fully blocking the world around you. They also include built-in microphones for calls and voice commands, according to Ray-Ban and Meta product details.

For me, that is a travel-day win. I could listen to music, take a call, hear directions or ask Meta a question while still staying aware of announcements, traffic and the people around me.

4. Live Translation for International Travel

This might be the feature I'm most curious about: live translation.

I do not have a gift for learning other languages, no matter how much time I spend trying. I use Google Translate a lot when I travel internationally.

Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses support live translation features, and current coverage of Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses notes real-time translation as one of the AI functions available on the glasses.

That could be especially helpful in airports, hotels, restaurants, taxis, shops or anywhere you need a little extra help understanding what is being said. It does not replace learning basic phrases or being a polite traveler, but it could make everyday travel moments feel less intimidating.

5. Less Screen Time, More Experiencing

My New Year's resolution for 2026 is to be more present.

That is hard to do when I'm constantly staring at my phone. I use it for directions, photos, videos, translation, texts, calls, restaurant searches and quick travel questions. Before I knew it, I’d spent half the walk looking at a screen instead of the place I traveled to see.

That is the biggest travel appeal of Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses to me. If the glasses can help with photos, directions, translation, calls, texts and quick questions, I have fewer reasons to pull out my phone.

And that means more time actually experiencing the trip.

Are Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses Worth It for Travel?

The biggest value of Meta AI Glasses is not one single feature. It is the combination.

Hands-free photos are useful. Directions are useful. Audio is useful. Translation is useful. But together, they solve one of the most annoying parts of travel: constantly needing your phone while your hands are full and your attention is split.

I would be most likely to use them on walking-heavy trips, international trips, theme park days, press trips, airport days and any destination where I want quick photos without carrying my phone in my hand the entire time.

I would not buy them expecting them to replace a camera, phone or translator completely. I would buy them as a hands-free travel helper that makes the small, repetitive parts of traveling easier.

What I'd Use Them for First

If I were packing Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses for my next trip, I would use them first for:

  • Capturing quick photos and videos while walking.
  • Getting directions in a city without staring at my phone.
  • Listening to music or calls in the airport without earbuds.
  • Asking quick questions about places I pass.
  • Testing live translation during international travel.
  • Staying off my phone more during sightseeing.

That last one may be the biggest selling point. Travel is more fun when you are actually looking around.
