Shooting victim is Lexington’s first homicide of 2018; hours later, another man shot at same location

A man died after being shot early Saturday morning in Lexington, the city’s first homicide of 2018.

Myron Wilkerson, 37, was found at on Dakota Street, off West Seventh Street. He was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he died around 2 a.m., according to the coroner’s office.

An investigation is underway, according to Lexington police.

Police said they were again called to the intersection of Dakota and Seventh at 12:30 p.m. Saturday after another man was shot there.

Lexington police Lt. Jackie Newman said that man told them he was approached by another man who demanded his wallet and then shot him in the leg.

The victim was able to go to the Speedway for help. His wound was not thought to be life-threatening.

Newman said police have no suspects in the robbery, and aside from the location, nothing tying the two shooting cases together.
