Want to help Australian farmers? Kentucky’s Alltech will match your donation
A global agricultural company based in Nicholasville is launching a new fund to help Australian farmers effected by bushfires that have ravaged the country over the past few weeks and devastated the farming community there.
Alltech, an animal nutrition company with companies in Australia, announced Friday that it was launching the Australia Farming Relief Fund, a global fundraising push. The company will match all donations to the fund dollar-for-dollar.
The loss of livestock in Australia is expected to top 100,000, Alltech officials said. The fires have also destroyed millions of acres of farmland. Those producers are struggling to secure supplies and feed, the company said.
“The bushfires have been devastating, but Australians are resilient and we are committed to rallying around our farmers as they recover from this crisis,” said Mark Peebles, managing director of Alltech Lienert, which is located in Roseworthy, Australia.
Alltech Lienert and KEENAN Australia, two Australian-based Alltech companies, will be coordinating Alltech’s relief efforts. The companies will distribute supplies such as hay, seed, feed supplements, water troughs and fencing.
Alltech employees will also volunteer time to help farmers rebuild fences, sheds and other infrastructure damaged by the fires, officials said.
Donations to the Australia Farming Relief Fund, collected through the Pearse Lyons ACE Foundation, Alltech’s nonprofit, can be made online at alltech.com/australia-farming-relief-fund.
