Lost a job in Kentucky due to coronavirus-related closures? Here’s who’s hiring.
As job losses mount after more businesses temporarily shut down or limit hours to stop the spread of the coronavirus other Kentucky businesses are hiring.
How many people have lost hours or work in Kentucky is not known. But a crush of more than 9,000 people trying to file for unemployment Tuesday shut down the state’s unemployment online system. State officials said in a typical week, 2,000 people file for unemployment.
Amazon, which has a distribution center in Lexington, announced earlier this week it was hiring 100,000 more employees nationwide as online buying ramps up as brick-and-mortar stores have curtailed hours and people in isolation turn to the Internet to buy goods.

In addition, Kroger announced Wednesday its hiring more than 500 part-time employees in its Louisville division, which includes Kentucky, Southern Indiana and Southern Illinois. Sayre Christian Village, a nonprofit senior living facility in Lexington, is looking for additional staff in its kitchen and dining rooms. It also has other positions available including skilled nursing, maintenance and housekeeping. Some positions are temporary and some are full-time. Restaurant and hotel employees currently out-of-work due to coronavirus-related closures are encouraged to apply, Sayre said in its Facebook post. Jet’s Pizza, which has franchises in Kentucky and 19 other states, needs more delivery drivers at each of its 386 locations. In Louisville, Facilities Management Services, an industrial cleaning company, is also looking to hire, according to WDRB.
