It was fun while it lasted.

The Magical Toy Shoppe, an independently-owned toy store on Main Street in Lexington, is closing at the end of March, the shop announced on Facebook last week.

“Unfortunately we have not been able to overcome the multiple and unending challenges the pandemic has forced on all of us,” a post on the store’s Facebook page stated. “Thank you for your support over the past 5 years…this community is truly a blessing. Thank you for letting me live out my dream these last few years.”

The store’s liquidation sale has begun, and no holds or returns are permitted.

Owner Rebecca Husz said in a 2018 interview that she tried to have lots of toys available for kids to try out and was often called on to help people choose just the right gift.

“Toys are everywhere but we work very hard to find toys you won’t find everywhere,” she said at the time.

The store’s website also said it provided customer services not always found at big box stores, including free gift wrapping, personal shoppers, Christmas wish lists and “birthday basket” services that allowed children to set aside a basket of gifts they’d like to receive so that friends and family would have a more convenient shopping experience.
