It’s Shop Local Week in Lexington. Here’s who’s participating

Lexington Shop Local Week has returned for its third year.

Across Lexington, participating independent retailers will offer shoppers exclusive deals and some in-store events from June 9-15 to encourage them to consistently shop local.

Shoppers are encouraged to pick up “passports” at one of the 24 participating shops and rack up stamps by making purchases at local stores. Get at least five stamps on your passport and email a photo of it to event coordinators, and you might just win the grand prize: 15 gift cards for $20 each at a local shop of your choosing.

Shop Local Week Director Amy Eddie said the passport system encourages shoppers to have conversations with employees and shop owners who she said typically enhance the shopping experience.

“Our small businesses are the heart of Lexington,” Eddie said. “This week gives the community a chance to show up, celebrate and reinvest in the people who make this city special.”

This week at Another Man’s Treasure, a furniture store, shoppers looking for mattresses can get one for 50% off. Order soaps or candles made by the week’s nonprofit partner Green House 17 and get a free lip balm.

At both John’s Run/Walk shop locations, shoppers can get $10 off any full-price pair of shoes. Specials at other participating shops are store-wide and some are on specific items.

“We want to drive local dollars into local shops,” Eddie said.

Here’s the full list of participating stores:

  • Ada & Lo.

  • Another Man’s Treasure.

The celebratory shopping week began three years ago as a way to showcase Lexington’s boutique shops, those small specialty stores that usually sell trending clothes and accessories.

The week has evolved since to include more variety, Eddie said. Now on the list of participating retailers are shops that sell experiences, longtime Lexington staples and some newer retailers.

Previous participants have said Shop Local Week is just as busy for them as Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday that take place closer to the holidays, Eddie said.
