Kentucky car manufacturing plant to close, lay off 230 employees

A Western Kentucky manufacturing plant will close over the next several months, laying off 230 employees, according to a notice filed with the state.

Fritz Winter North America LP, an automotive part manufacturer, will begin closing its Franklin plant December 31, with operations to permanently cease by March 31, 2026. The move comes as the company is “winding down its U.S. business in the coming months,” it said in a WARN notice to the Kentucky Career Center, which tracks layoffs and closures in the state.

The Franklin plant was the U.S. headquarters for the German company, and it manufactured disc brake rotors among other parts. The plant opened in 2017.

Fritz Winter did not immediately return a request for comment on the layoffs.
